Ladysmith, British Columbia, Canada

This well-equipped bakery is an intimate setting for hands-on instruction. French doors open up to a large deck, lawn and vegetable garden with access to the wood-fired brick oven.  The location is tranquil, allowing us to concentrate on bread-making .

The bakery is not on public transport so arrangements for pick-up or car rental are mandatory. The bakery is situated in a quiet neighbourhood 200 meters from the ocean. During the summer months the sheltered waters of Ladysmith are a great way to rinse the flour dust from a busy baking day! There are fantastic hiking trails, kayaking and even fishing and crabbing if one wants to take in British Columbia’s ‘super-natural’ offerings.

Nestled on the eastern shores of spectacular Vancouver Island, the Town of Ladysmith features all the warmth and charm of small-town living with a full range of services and amenities. Ladysmith is a growing community located just 88 km (55 miles) north of Victoria and 23 km (14 miles) south of Nanaimo. The Cowichan Valley, (Canada’s Tuscany), 20 minutes south, is home to many wineries, artisan food producers and some wonderful restaurants.

Ladysmith is accessible by air with Cassidy Airport (YCD) ten minutes away, as well as by ferry (http://www.bcferries.com/) from the mainland. If coming from the Pacific Northwest, there are also ferries from Seattle, Washington USA (https://www.clippervacations.com/seattle-victoria-ferry/) to Victoria, about 80 kilometers south. International flights come in to Vancouver Airport (YVR); (the add-on to Vancouver Island is available at time of booking).
