Ride

and
the

Community Fund
COAST
TO COAST
19
- 22 August 2009
The
total amount raised was £785. Of that, £523
went to the Wicken Community Fund and the balance to
Macmillan Cancer Support.
This
160
mile charity
cycle ride started at the waters edge on the Irish Sea
in Whitehaven, Cumbria and finished at the North Sea
in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.
The route
took in spectacular
scenery in the northern Lake District and the North
Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Gut-wrenching
climbs along the way included the Whinlatter
Pass, the six mile ascent
to Hartside (altitude 580m), the climb out of Nenthead
past the highest point of the ride (609m) and finally
the hill out of Stanhope to the Waskerley Way.
